General Registration Procedures
The Family and Consumer Sciences Distance Education Alliance operates using a "home institution/provider institution" model. The home institution is the FCS Alliance university at which the individual is enrolled in a teacher preparation program resulting in family and consumer sciences certification. The provider institution is the FCS Alliance member institution that is offering the distance education course. Click to access listing and contact information for participating universities.
Persons seeking to access courses available through the FCS Alliance typically fall in one of the following groups and will follow procedures accordingly:
1. Individuals who are enrolled in a family and consumer sciences certification program at an FCS Alliance institution and eligible for resident tuition in Texas - These individuals enroll in a family and consumer sciences certification program at an FCS Alliance institution and work through their faculty advisor at the home institution to enroll in distance education courses offered by other alliance institutions. The faculty advisor will:
- approve courses to satisfy certification program requirements,
- contact the provider institution point of contact to confirm space availability in the distance education course desired,
- work with the student to prepare and submit required information to the provider institution to reserve a space in the course, and
- inform student of enrollment procedures to be completed at the home institution.
2. Individuals who are enrolled in a family and consumer sciences certification program at an FCS Alliance institution but who are not eligible for resident tuition in Texas - These individuals will work through their faculty advisor at the home institution; the faculty advisor will:
- approve courses to satisfy certification requirements,
- contact the provider institution point of contact to reserve a space in the distance education course desired, and
- facilitate student access to enrollment procedures for the provider institution.
3. Individuals needing random courses to transfer to a non-alliance institution, to complete an isolated certification deficiency, or for reasons other than to complete certification program requirements - These persons should obtain enrollment information by making contact directly to the instructor shown as teaching the course at the provider institution. Enrollment will occur at the provider institution and will be limited to space available after satisfying enrollment requests of individuals enrolling to meet requirements for teacher certification.
All tuition and fees will be paid at the provider institution. Completed coursework will be recorded on the student's transcript at the provider institution.
